I won't go as far as saying it's better than Thin Lizzy's because their version is so well-crafted & iconic, especially because of Phil's vocals... but it is far better than Overkill's recent take on it, imo... Verni's rumbling bass is the best thing about it.

It's hard to credit one song or band in particular, since people in different places often catch the same creative "wave" at once, but a song like The Widdershin's Jig captures the zeitgeist of the early folk metal seeds very well. A few short years later, in the mid 90s, the folk metal flower really began to bloom with Cruachan, Mago De Oz, and others.
